Florida AHEC Network Takes a Cue from The Social Network

Florida AHEC Network Launches 86000Patients.com

You Don't Treat 86,000 Patients Without Continued Legislative Funding

Does this get your attention?

Tallahassee—

The Florida AHEC Network launched a website today highlighting the AHEC Network’s achievements in treating Florida patients and training Florida’s future health care workforce.  The website, http://www.86000patients.com/, tells the AHEC story and encourages patients, students, and other concerned Floridians to take action to save the Network’s funding.

“Everyone has heard of The Social Network, but perhaps not the AHEC Network,” said Andrée Aubrey, President of the AHEC Network. “Taking a cue from The Social Network’s tagline— ‘You don’t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies’—the AHEC Network has an equivalent message: ‘You don’t treat 86,000 patients without legislative funding.’

“The Florida AHEC Network provided services to well over 86,000 individuals in Florida last year, even with a 60% cut in our budget,” explained Aubrey. “To continue providing services to Florida’s neediest patients—including children, the elderly, and pregnant women—we are requesting level funding from the Florida Legislature this year. This website allows us to better explain how the AHEC Network treats patients, trains students, and saves taxpayer dollars in Florida.”

Florida’s AHEC Network provides primary care services directly to patients in Florida’s underserved areas and trains the state’s future health care workforce.  Comprised of five Programs and ten community-based Centers across the state, the AHEC Network is the only program in which Florida’s medical schools collaborate to provide direct primary care services to patients in their surrounding communities. The AHEC Network focuses on empowering patients and encouraging them to take more personal responsibility for their own health care, which drives down costs and keeps patients out of expensive emergency rooms.

“Instead of asking the thousands of Floridians who have benefitted from the AHEC Network to send a pre-written letter or canned email, http://www.86000patients.com/ allows individuals to tell their own story about AHEC by emailing legislators, using Twitter to contact them, or posting a note on their Facebook page,” continued Aubrey.  “It’s important not only to tell the AHEC story, but to encourage others to tell their stories too.  This website is a forum to educate Floridians and lawmakers about why it is critical to preserve the Network and allow us to continue treating underserved patients.”

Session Is Here!

It’s been a while since we’ve updated our website. CEC has been busy with a number of new clients, from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to the Florida AHEC (Area Health Education Centers) Network.  In January, CEC helped to elect Republican Party of Florida Chairman Dave Bitner to office, running a successful campaign and securing an overwhelming victory.

We’ve been writing annual reports, launching microsites, briefing reporters, engaging bloggers, studying our clients’ issues, and getting ready for Session. And now…it’s here.

Do you have a rally planned at the Capitol or “Capitol Days” coming up for your organization or association? Need to place op-eds in target media markets or establish a social media strategy?  Have a press conference or roundtable to plan? Need to respond to a crisis situation or secure positive media coverage?

Is it time to energize your message?

Call me at (850) 339-3184, email me at evansickle@capitolenergy.net, or tweet me at @ErinVanSickle.

CEC is proud to note that Florida Trend’s October issue features Tallahassee small business Danfoss Turbocor in the magazine’s Community Portrait.

Journalist Charlotte Crane notes,               “…Economic developers are trying to leverage that human capital — and the area’s livability — to target high-value sectors like alternative energy, aviation, information technology and research services. Alone, the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at FSU is a unique asset that’s responsible for attracting at least one cutting-edge manufacturing firm, Danfoss Turbocor, a Danish manufacturer of high-tech air-conditioning compressors…”

The Community Portrait also includes DTC in its Notable section, in good company with Capital City Bank Group and The St. Joe Company’s Southwood development:

“Danfoss Turbocor — The firm manufactures and markets ultra-efficient variable-speed air-conditioning compressors that are oil-less and almost frictionless. It sells worldwide. The company, which employs around 160, also operates an R&D lab at its facility in Innovation Park.”

Thanks to Florida Trend for highlighting this innovative Tallahassee company!

YES ON 9 Campaign Applauds Attorney General’s Defense of Amendment 9

(Orlando, FL – June 30, 2010)—The YES ON 9 Campaign applauded Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum today for his decision to defend the Amendment against a lawsuit that attempts to block it from the November ballot. Amendment 9 seeks to protect Floridians’ right to choose their own healthcare by placing that right in the state’s Constitution.

“Florida’s Constitution is a sacred document that outlines the liberties, freedoms, and fundamental rights of Floridians,” said Rep. Scott Plakon (R-Longwood.) “By defending the right of voters to place healthcare freedom in the Constitution, Attorney General McCollum is upholding a right that Floridians and people across the nation continue to demand in the face of big-government mandates.”

Amendment 9, which has already been vetted by the Florida House and Senate and approved for the ballot according to Article XI and statutory procedure, unequivocally states that no government can mandate a Floridian’s participation in a government healthcare scheme against his or her will. Under the leadership of Sen. Carey Baker (R-Eustis) and Rep. Plakon, the Florida Legislature approved the amendment and it now has over 4,000 citizen co-sponsors.

“Amendment 9 has already won broad-based support across Florida, reflecting the people’s deep distrust of the federal government’s healthcare plan,” said Sen. Baker. “Small businessegrassroots s, volunteers, medical professionals, and everyday Floridians continue to express their support for healthcare freedom, and we are grateful for Attorney General McCollum’s efforts to ensure that they will have the opportunity to preserve this fundamental right in our Constitution.”

Attorney Mark Herron and Democrat operatives with ties to Organizing for America, MoveOn.org, and other liberal special interest groups filed the lawsuit in Friday. Visit the YES ON 9 Campaign at www.FLHealthcareFreedom.org for additional information.
